Adaptation and Resilience to a Changing Climate (ARCC) has been built on the successes of the EPSRC/UKCIP programme Building Knowledge for a Changing Climate (BKCC) and by the knowledge transfer and networking activity Sustaining Knowledge for a Changing Climate (SKCC). Research areas addressed are:
- Adaptation and resilience to climate change of existing buildings and infrastructure systems in the urban environment; and
- Adaptation and resilience to climate change of UK critical infrastructure systems including transport infrastructure and water resource systems.
These research themes have been informed by a series of stakeholder and researcher workshops that were the primary outputs of SKCC (results available here.)
ARCC is part of Living with Environment Change (LWEC) – a ten-year programme to provide decision makers with information to manage and protect vital ecosystem services. LWEC will improve tools and knowledge needed to build resilience, mitigate problems, and adapt to environmental change. ARCC research relates to the LWEC strategic objective:
"To make infrastructure, the built environment and transport systems resilient to environmental change and develop more sustainable, less energy-intensive systems and approaches that are socially acceptable, economically advantageous and more environmentally harmonious"
