Data management group
To help facilitate a coordinated approach to data management issues across all the projects as required by the EPSRC, a Data Management Group has been established by the ACN and includes representatives from each project. The first meeting was held on 28th January 2010 and the report can be downloaded as a pdf (420 KB).
The aim of the meeting was to explore and discuss the coordination of data management within the ACN and the initial expectations of EPSRC, the projects, stakeholders and the ACN team were discussed with respect to both data acquisition and the dissemination of outputs. Based on this, and additional information provided by the individual projects, the ACN has developed a data management work plan and initiated work in this area. Information will be added to the ACN website and newsletter as it becomes available.
Metadata
Part of the aim of the ACN is to help make available research outputs from all the projects in a timely and appropriate manner. Building on experience from the BKCC programme, and following discussions at the first ACN Data Management Group, this can be achieved for geospatial outputs through the use of metadata which records detailed information about specific project outputs. The metadata can then be saved in an ACN metadatabase and the information made available through an existing geographical information system. UKCIP have put together a proposal for taking this work forward (pdf, 120 KB) which includes a metadata form to be completed by the projects for each output or suite of outputs (xls, 130 KB), guidelines to help in the completion of this form (pdf, 360 KB) and overall data requirements to meet current data standards (pdf, 8 KB)
